Duncan advises you need some prep work. "Make sure that you're not walking on a lot of obstacles - ice and potholes and limbs, and things of that nature," he said. "You might want to find a place in your neighborhood that you could walk on numerous times. That way if you get real cold or you happen to fall, you're relatively close to your house so you don't have to worry about being way out of town." He says just like in the summer with heatstroke, prevention is key for temperature-related illness, such as frostbite or hypothermia. "When you're working outside in the cold, most of your blood is really concentrated into your core area, so it leaves exposed some of your outer skin areas such as your nose, your hands, your head, your fingers and so forth," Duncan explained.
